My biggest heroes are people who work relentlessly to rescue animals.
Whether they are saving abused, abandoned pets or endangered wildlife species, these heroes take part in the world's most amazing animal-rescue missions, and help us all to see how crucial it is to be compassionate and selfless human beings.
Husband and wife Jimmy and Jenny Desmond frequently travel oversees on animal-rescue missions. They save, nurture, and rehabilitate orphaned baby animals.
Somewhere along the way, they added a third member to their family: Princess, a rescue dog that was days away from being euthanized at the animal shelter.
Together with their amazing rescue dog, the Desmonds are planning to take care of chimpanzees on their newest assignment to Liberia.
Read on to know more about Princess' story, and about the Desmonds' latest rescue operation.

Jimmy and Jenny Desmond have made it their life’s work to help animals. They have traveled to many places around the globe to rescue and rehabilitate orphaned animals.

Jimmy, a wildlife veterinarian, has traveled with his wife to work as consultants for charity organizations like the Humane Society, the Jane Goodall Institute, and the Harmony Fund, which dispatches animal-rescue teams worldwide.

Along the way, the husband-and-wife team adopted and rehabilitated their dog, Princess. '[Princess] was considered ‘unadoptable’ and was scheduled to be euthanized,' Jenny told the Dodo.

Today, Princess travels frequently with the Desmonds on their rescue missions.

While Mom and Dad treat injured and orphaned animals before releasing them back into the wild, Princess helps comfort and entertain the baby animals.

'Princess is part of everything we do day to day and in the bigger picture. She travels everywhere with us,' said Jenny.

Princess mostly helps bring an atmosphere of security and calm to the baby animals, while Jimmy and Jenny tend to the animals’ medical needs.

So far, Princess has lived in seven different countries since she started traveling with her owners. Most notably, she has visited Uganda, China, and Lebanon.

The three rescuers have gained global recognition for their contributions and charitable work. Even anthropologist and UN Messenger of Peace Jane Goodall loves Princess!

Just a few weeks ago, the Desmonds and Princess embarked on their newest trip: they're helping the abandoned chimpanzees in Liberia, who were used in experiments for 30 years by the New York Blood Center.

Princess will, of course, be by the rescuers’ side every step of the way in their mission in Liberia. We wish them the best of luck on their mission!

We commend the Desmonds for all of their rescue work, and pray for both their safety and success in Liberia!
