Employees and volunteers at Texas Sled Dog Rescue didn't think that a pregnant dog named Debbie would give birth when she did. They thought her belly was quite small and that she still had some time before giving birth because she wasn't far along.
Then, just a couple of hours after she'd been picked up, she started lactating. They knew she was going to give birth in the shelter.
But one volunteer couldn't let that happen — the shelter was no place for a dog to give birth. Jennifer Taylor took Debbie, who was in labor, into her husband's car and drove her home.
"I have a husky giving birth in the back of my car," she then wrote on Facebook. "Please don’t tell my husband."
The husky couldn't wait until then to give birth. In the back seat of the car, two puppies were born! Then six more came once she was safely inside the house.

Debbie the husky was picked up in the nick of time by Texas Sled Dog Rescue.

She was pregnant, but as far as the employees and volunteers could tell, she wasn't very far along. She had a tiny belly.

But when Debbie started lactating, volunteer Jennifer Taylor knew she was about to give birth. Jennifer rushed the husky to her home, but the expectant mother couldn't wait: She gave birth to two puppies right there, in the back seat of Jennifer's husband's car!

Once in the foster mom's home, the husky gave birth to six more pups. In total, she had eight little ones — six girls and two boys.

As she was driving Debbie to her house, Jennifer wrote on Facebook: "I have a husky giving birth in the back of my car. Please don’t tell my husband." She wasn't supposed to be transporting dogs with his vehicle!

Days later, the rescue organization was saddened to report that one of Debbie's puppies had unfortunately passed away.

However, the remaining seven are quickly growing stronger and stronger every day.

The puppies are now about 3 weeks old. After some more time with Mom, they will find their forever homes!
