They Leave 6 Puppies Alone With Prison Inmates. No One Expected What Came Next.

This past January, six puppies were abandoned in Sioux Falls, SD. Someone left them for dead in a trash can during the harsh winter cold. It's hard to believe that at one time these tiny pups were struggling to survive at just one week old.

Luckily, the pups were rescued before it was too late, and they soon met their destiny: All six of them were enrolled in the Paroled Pups Program at the South Dakota State Penitentiary, where inmates provided them with around-the-clock care. That's right — these helpless puppies were raised by prison inmates. Many people may think this would have the potential for disaster, or that the dogs would be put in a dangerous position. However, when you see the transformation that takes place in both the animals and the humans, it's hard to argue with a program like this.

The Paroled Pups Program, much like what we saw in the incredible documentary "Dogs On The Inside," brings together two groups of societal outcasts: unwanted dogs and convicted criminals. And after taking such pride in caring for them for nearly two months, the inmates had to let the puppies go and find their forever homes.

"It's really sinking in, and it's going to be difficult," one inmate said. While the inmates were heartbroken to see them go, it was a bittersweet goodbye. Soon, they received a new litter to care for.

The puppies were moved from the prison to the humane society, where all six of them were adopted out within mere hours!
