Rescuing a dog can be one of the most rewarding experiences you'll have in your life. However, like most rewarding things, it doesn't come without some hard work first.
The hardest part about adopting a rescue dog is finding the one you want that will also fit your lifestyle in the first place. Shopping for a dog is a much bigger deal than shopping for something like a new pair of jeans.
Of course, part of the catch about rescue dogs is that they come with a past that often involves neglect, abuse, or some other unusual history. Luckily, shelters are usually transparent about this, which makes for more successful adoptions in the long run.
Twitter user @historiancole was looking at rescue dogs online when she noticed a Siberian husky named Jack who tickled her fancy.
Jack seemed perfect, until she noticed one eyebrow-raising detail — he's banned from an entire state.

When she came across Jack on AdoptaPet.com, he looked just as cute and friendly as any other good boy.
However, his description did mention the fact that he just so happens to be banned from residing in the state of Maryland.
On his page at the Delaware Valley Siberian Husky Rescue says:
Jack is a very sweet affectionate boy. He is house trained and good in a crate. Jack enjoys car rides and is excellent in the car. Jack gets along with other dogs but is not good with cats.
He pulls very hard on leash and will need a lot of exercise. Jack is very smart and learns quickly. Jack can jump a 4 ft fence from a stand still. So he will need a 6ft fenced yard.
Unfortunately, due to some mischief that Jack got into when he was younger, he cannot legally be adopted or reside in the state of Maryland. Our rescue will disclose the details to applicants who have been approved for adoption.
Most of us can admit having gotten into some mischief when we were younger, but what could Jack have possibly done to be barred entry from an entire state?
One Twitter user joked that Jack, "obviously broke some rules," which must be true.
Whether or not they involved smoking, drinking or skateboards is yet to be determined.
While a search for why a husky might be banned from Maryland didn't yield any results, there are certain rules when it comes to dogs.
According to DogsBite.org, pit bulls are banned from two counties in Maryland and "declared dangerous" in another.
So, a dog can be banned from the state for being dangerous, but it's hard to imagine this fella doing anything that wrong.
In fact, Jack's bio mentions that he's good with other dogs, likes his crate, is easy to groom, feed, behaves in the car, and is even good with older kids.
