You know how everyone likes to think that their kid is the smartest one in the class? It’s kind of a similar phenomenon with dogs.
Everyone thinks that their dog is the smartest and most capable animal on earth, including me. Unfortunately, in my case, my dog is probably not actually the brightest, and my eyes are just clouded with love.
Thankfully, there are plenty of other smart pups out there. Some of them can imitate babies, some of them can kind of sort of talk, and some of them are Jordan: this adorable and well-behaved Labrador…who can read!
I know, that sounds crazy, but I’m completely serious! Her owner shows her two sides of the same card. One says "down" and one says "sit." Jordan, Einstein of dogs, is easily able to distinguish between the two words.
Granted, it could just be that she’s not really ‘reading,’ but has just learned to associate two different visual cues with two different behaviors. That said, even if she’s just good at recognizing different images, what is that if not the first stage of learning how to read?
Whether Jordan is reading or not in this video, I would like to think that by now, she’s a literary genius who spends her evenings deeply engrossed in ‘Far From The Madding Crowd’. When she writes her inevitable memoir, I’ll be first in line to buy it!
