Family Scrambles To Find Missing Son For 3 Hours, Then K-9 Finds His Shorts On The Ground

Freya is a 3-year-old Bavarian mountain hound who specializes in finding and saving lost children. Like most rescue dogs, she's been trained to sniff out scents specific to each individual.

Her talents were put to use when a frantic family called the authorities with the news that their young autistic son had wandered off the road and into the woods. Friends and neighbors had helped them search for him for three hours, but with no results. They were afraid that they were too late.

With the setting sun and the weather getting colder, it was essential for the boy to be found.

Deputy Ron Olivier led Freya to pieces of the boy's clothing, from which she picked up his scent.

She slowly led him through the woods, sniffing around very carefully. In just 20 minutes, they happened upon a pair of shorts. There he was, shivering on the ground. Freya had successfully found the boy, safe and sound!

He is now expected to be OK and is recovering, much to the relief of his family. As for Freya, she is being showered with affection and attention. The officer says that she's easy to please: since she was trained, that's all she has wanted as a reward!
