Therapy animals are changing the way people cope with difficulties in their lives. These animals, whether they are cats, dogs, or horses, are making a difference for the people they work with.
A farm in Boston has therapy horses working with military veterans to help them readjust to civilian life. A therapy dog is making the life of a young boy with autism better each day.
Therapy animals are trained to sense when they are needed and how to give the proper care. Karl is a therapy dog with a very important mission. He works with children who have to testify against their abusers. Children who have been physically or emotionally abused are already very fragile, and having to face their abuser in court is extremely terrifying.
Karl is there at their side the entire time. He sits with the children and allows them to find comfort in his touch. They hold his leash, rub their feet on his fur, pet his head — anything to make themselves feel calm. Karl is happy to report to duty with his little blue hat on his head and a lazy puppy smile to keep the children feeling safe.
