I will never in a million years understand people who can just ditch or abandon a living creature.
If you are unable to care for your dog, there are so many alternatives to just ditching your pet. You should absolutely contact your local humane society or ASPCA branch. Whether it's ignorance, guilt, or malice, some people don't take those steps. I've seen people abandon their dogs in suitcases or just leave them at a train station.
Not every story like this has a happy ending, but when they do, LittleThings likes to share those with you.
Recently, Reddit user babyinatrenchcoat uploaded photos of her rescue schnauzer, Kingsley. When rescuers first stumbled upon this dog, he was tied to a tree and they didn't think he'd make it. With love and persistence, however, he has gone through a miraculous transformation.
She says, "I'm trying to do everything I can to make up for his past and show him the love he hasn't known for 3 years. I want to find the person who did that to him and tie THEM to a tree and leave them there. But he's such an amazing dog and has come around completely."

When they found him, Kingsley's hair was so severely matted, it caused him pain. He was starved and clearly had been beaten.

Rescuers shaved off his fur to reveal a body covered in scars. Some were old, but some were very fresh.

This is the photo that made the Reddit user first fall in love with him. Apparently, Kingsley is still quite skittish and especially afraid of men.

Fortunately, Kingsley was able to find a new home where he is not only taken care of — he is spoiled.

He's adjusting slowly but surely. He had never been potty-trained, and he still had issues with possessiveness and barking. And he didn't even know how to play with toys.

He's definitely getting better with every week. He loves to play fetch, go for car rides, and cuddle — and he has a peculiar fondness for dryer sheets!

He has now reached a healthy weight, and he seems to be growing more and more comfortable around other people.

"He's come such a long way, and it's been a battle sometimes. But when he's snuggled in my lap and gently gives my hand or face a kiss, I know how grateful he is and how it's all worth it."
