When thinking of a BLT, most would envision some crispy bacon inside a simple, delicious sandwich. But for Noah's Ark Animal Sanctuary in Locust Grove, and anyone who is a fan of them, they know that this BLT is much better than a sandwich.
'BLT' is the clever name for three unique friends that were rescued during a drug raid in 2001.
Baloo, an American black bear, Leo, a lion, and Shere Khan, a Bengal tiger — these three beautiful animals coexisted for 15 years and treated each other as if they were born from the same womb.
But now, their 'BLT' trio has unfortunately become a duo.
According to Noah's Ark Animal Sanctuary's Facebook page, when Leo wasn't himself for a few weeks, barely eating or being active, they knew something was wrong.
They decided to perform exploratory surgery, and what they found was about to change 'BLT' forever.
Over 80% of Leo's liver was covered in inoperable masses that left them all with a life-shattering decision. After letting Baloo and Shere Khan say goodbye, the sanctuary had to let Leo go.
Now they're focusing on celebrating his life and making sure his brothers are coping okay with their loss.
In remembrance of Leo, we can look back at his life as a part of 'BLT,' at the sanctuary that saved their lives and let them live happily.

After being rescued from a drug dealer's basement, baby Leo, Baloo, and Shere Khan were introduced to a new safe place to live. Here, in 2001, Leo and Shere Khan explore their home together.

The three of them have such a bond from where they came from that they do everything together. Bathe, sleep, play, and even eat.
What better name than 'BLT', for a trio that goes so beautifully? I'd choose a bear, lion, and tiger rather than a bacon, lettuce, and tomato!

Their bond is so special, and I can't imagine a brotherhood that could compare. The caretakers at the sanctuary believe that Baloo and Shere Khan may have known about Leo's medical issues before they even became outwardly apparent.

The three of them lived through an abusive start to life, and remained there for each other through their journey out of that life.
After being rescued, they could have gone their separate ways, but thankfully they were kept together and proved their miraculous bond.

Although 'BLT' won't be the same without him, I can imagine that he will never leave them in spirit. This beautiful trio is one that no one will forget, and these two beauties still left with us will definitely be attended to throughout their grieving.
Please SHARE this beautiful friendship in memory of Leo!
