How A One-Eyed Pit Bull Made Her Mark On The World Before She Died. I’m In Tears.

Sometimes in life, a brief encounter with someone special can change the course of a person's life forever.

When New York City based Second Chance Rescue picked up Lexi, a one-eyed, gentle Pit Bull who was close to dying, the team their was blessed with one of these life-changing encounters. Although it's difficult to know why Lexi was abandoned, her rescuers assume it's because her medical problems had become to much for them to handle.

A massive brain tumor and infected eye were detrimental to Lexi's health, but it was not too much for Second Chance. They had a vet quickly operate to remove the eye and tumor, but days later the tumor returned. They wanted this sweet, joyful Pit Bull, who was likely abused her whole life to enjoy her last few days on this earth.

Volunteers brought Lexi hiking, to the beach, to adoption events and fundraisers and she even hung out in the office. Everyone who met this darling dog commented on how special and sweet she was – the complete opposite of prejudices against her breed.  When the day came that Lexi could no longer eat, the team knew her time have come.

Jackie O'Sullivan maintained the Facebook page for Lexi during her time at the rescue center and said her more than 62,000 fans had fallen in love in only a few weeks. O'Sullivan told the Huffington Post she hopes that Lexi's legacy will live on in people committing themselves to homeless dogs who need medical care, and to working toward overcoming prejudice against Pit Bulls.

Please check out the touching tribute to Lexi's life and then please SHARE with all of your friends on Facebook to remember this sweet, loving dog, who was taken too soon.
