When National Guardsman Tony Swett returned home from his tour in Afghanistan, he couldn't help but feel like his life was missing something.
Like so many former members of the military, Tony suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and confesses to having felt "done" with life just a year and a half ago. The only thing that helped him turn around and finally cope? His wife's dog, Cooper.
Tony explains to WYFF News 4 that during one of his dark days, the sweet pup simply laid his head down on his lap — like Cooper could actually sense that it was exactly what Tony needed.
Since then, the two have attended training to make their bond stronger than ever. They've even found employment together!
After hearing about a Lowe's store in Texas that hired a veteran and his service dog, he checked with his local store and the manager was happy to do the same for Tony and Cooper.
With Cooper by his side, Tony is able to feel completely at ease and comfortable in the work environment.
Unfortunately, too many veterans never find the same sense of happiness. "There are over 20-something veterans that commit suicide a day," Tony explains before encouraging any veteran in need to reach out to similar service dog programs in their area.
Take a look at the video below to hear more about the Lowe's veteran employee and his dog.
