Mastiffs are truly gentle giants.
While dogs are normally frightened of most primates, an orphaned baby chimpanzee born at a Russian zoo instantly took to his new Mastiff friend after his mother died.
The massive Mastiff mama had just so happened to have given birth right before she met the baby chimp, so when her zoo employee pet parent took him home, she decided to adopt and raise him along with her own puppies.

The baby chimp seemed to think that the Mastiff was his mama...
...and that her puppies were his own siblings!
In fact, he seemed to assume that he himself was a dog!
While interspecies adoption is rare, many animals have been known to bond and form close relationships outside of their respective species.
Not much is known about the baby chimp and his doggie family, but these photos that became an Internet sensation shortly after they were posted make it clear that there was no shortage of love and affection.
Animals understand that love knows no boundaries, and that there is so much more that unites us than separates us.
It is very important for the healthy development of baby mammals for them to form close bonds with their caretakers.
