If you treat your pets with the same tender loving care as you do your children, then you probably have every whisker memorized.
However, like people, animals can have doppelgängers, or a body double who looks exactly like them. Of course, the catch with animals is that they cannot talk and tell you who they are.
It's a little easier to pick a dog out of a crowd than a cat. After all, a popular saying goes, "Dogs have masters and cats have staff."
That didn't stop one mom from mistaking her dog for a lost one she saw online. Mistaken pet identify is definitely not an unheard of problem.
One man in New Zealand fell victim to this when he noticed his black cat acting strange. Turns out, that the cat wasn't his at all.
The story was so hilarious that his friend, who goes by @NZClarke shared the series od events on Twitter.

The cat owner's friend shares on Twitter, "A mate just spent $130 at the vet on his cat then had to lock it in his bedroom for 5 days recovery, and JUST NOW HIS ACTUAL CAT WALKED IN."

Turns out, @NZClarke's friend had been taking care of the wrong black cat for an entire week.

Things get worse. According to @NZClarke:
He just told me a neighbour had some looking for her missing black cat and he said ‘Na, sorry just my cat in here! I actually snort laughed

In all honesty, the cats do look pretty similar. Without any distinguishable marks, it can be tough to pick a black cat out of the crowd.

To make matters even worse yet again, the catnapper did notice that who he thought was his cat was acting strange. So, he brought the cat to the vet to see what was going on.

@NZClarke updates us yet again:
OMG so he told vet it did seem to be acting strange so vet prescribed it anti-anxiety meds. MY MATE HAS KIDNAPPED AND BEEN DRUGGING A KITTEH!

There is one more piece of information that makes this story even more unbelievable. It is of course, provided yet again by @NZClarke via Twitter:
wait, hang on, it turns out rando cat is a boy and his is a girl, HOW DID THE VET NOT NOTICE THIS??

Luckily, the mistaken cat who actually belonged to the neighbor was returned in one piece. Better yet, he is home and back in the lap where he belongs.

In this guys defense, black cats can kind of all look the same. What do you think?
