TikTok Influencer Notices Injured Cat, Takes Him To Cat Sanctuary & Ends Up Raising $190K

Spencer from SB Mowing was cleaning an overgrown lawn in Texas when he happened to notice an injured cat. In a video shared on TikTok, he explained that he saw the cat "just laying there." "It seems like she's kind of hurting so I'm not really sure what to do," Spencer said in the video. Eventually, he decided to reach out to various cat rescue organizations, but only one of them told Spencer he could bring the cat in: Edgar and Ivy's Cat Sanctuary.

By telling the cat's story on TikTok and raising awareness about the sanctuary, Spencer ended up raising over $190,000 for Edgar and Ivy's Cat Sanctuary, which has allowed it to continue doing its important rescue work.

Admittedly, Spencer didn't envision helping a cat rescue would be part of his job. He specializes in lawn care. On the SB Mowing website, SB Mowing is described as the "largest lawn care and pressure washing social media influencer across every platform." Spencer has amassed a large following on social media platforms like TikTok and YouTube by documenting the work he does in the community.

He travels to different neighborhoods and mows lawns for free for people who could use the help, whether it's elderly people, busy families, or "anyone who could use a helping hand with their yard," per Spencer's YouTube.

Despite his commitment to community care, when he shared the cat's story on TikTok, he admitted that he "never expected this job to turn into a rescue mission."

In most of his videos, he documents the work he does in people's yards. However, in this particular video, he took a cat in need to the cat sanctuary to receive medical care that ended up saving the cat's life. When Spencer and the cat arrived at Edgar and Ivy's Cat Sanctuary, Spencer was informed that the cat probably got his injuries from a fight with another male cat or a dog, which later led to an infection.

Anissa Beal, director of the cat sanctuary, told the San Antonio Express-News that the cat "would have died within the next 48 hours from sepsis" if he had not been treated.

In his video, Spencer took his followers on a tour of Edgar and Ivy's Cat Sanctuary and encouraged them to donate, volunteer, send them supplies, or do anything that they could do to help support the "amazing" cat sanctuary.

"This place is amazing," he said in the video. "It's called Edgar and Ivy's Cat Sanctuary here in Corpus Christi and they were the only ones willing to take on this cat."

He started a fundraiser on GoFundMe, writing "I've never seen so much passion put into helping people and helping animals. They are limited by their supplies and resources, so I thought I would start a GoFundMe and we all can join together in helping them making a difference!"

Spencer ended up raising over $190,000 with the help of his generous followers.

The TikToker's efforts helped rescue a cat, who reportedly recovered from his injuries and is living at the cat sanctuary, per the San Antonio Express-News, and also helped raise enough money to keep the cat sanctuary going.

Because Anissa has mostly used her own money to cover the costs of maintaining the cat sanctuary, she wasn't sure it was sustainable, and didn't know how much longer she would be able to continue, she explained to the San Antonio Express-News.

The money Spencer raised was a sign to keep going, she said.

"I kept praying that I'd get some sort of a sign if I should continue because I told myself if I couldn't make it this year, I was going to end it. I was not going to continue this rescue," she told the outlet, adding that Spencer "saved us."
