Marine Cpl. Justin Bunce was on patrol in Iraq when shrapnel from a bomb ripped through his right side and severely damaged his brain. He returned to the U.S. and is now fighting to recover. But after he met the service dog named in his honor, Bunce's life immediately took a positive turn.
When Bunce was introduced to the adorable puppy, it was an immediate connection. The puppy is a wounded warrior service dog in training. The marine will train the dog for another wounded soldier.
"Being around little angels like this guy, I am so honored to have him named after me," the marine said.
Bunce the puppy was born at Warrior Canine Connection in Brookeville, MD. He and his human caretaker have already forged an unbreakable bond.
The brave marine will train the dog for about two years. Then, Warrior Canine Connection will pair the dog with a veteran. At this time, the organization is unsure if the dog will be "suited to partner with a warrior who has post-traumatic stress or serve as a mobility dog for a veteran with physical disabilities, like an amputation or chronic pain."
