A farm in Dalton, NH, recently surrendered 10 of the 17 miniature horses living there to the New Hampshire Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).
The minis were reported to have been mistreated, although an investigation is currently underway in order to determine what, exactly, was going on there.
It appears to be "a case of owners becoming overwhelmed and unable to care for the animals they have," reports Steve Sprowl, manager of field services at the New Hampshire SPCA. He’s overseeing rehabilitation for these little beauties to ensure they are adopted as soon as possible.
Still, that process may take some time.
"It depends on each individual horse," Sprowl says, while many of the miniature horses happily graze on the grass behind him. "Some of them could be ready to go up right away, [but] some of them that have medical needs could take a little longer."
In a bit happier news, this reminds me of the mini horse named Charlie who’s been stealing hearts the world over. Acer is another one who’s super adorable, though he thinks he’s actually a dog. (Too cute!)
"The horses are safe and being lovingly cared for, and that is only possible because of the generosity of our community," reports the New Hampshire SPCA on their Facebook page. We’re very happy to hear that they are now safe!
