Every dog owner's biggest fear is losing their beloved fur baby. If you hear a report of a lost dog online or on the radio — and your pooch isn't right in front of you — you're always going to wonder if it's your dog.
After all, if you're responsible for a little life, it's easy to get anxious about disaster striking.
To be perfectly honest, it's completely normal to freak out for a second even if your dog is actually on your lap! It's all in a day's work for a dog mom, just like having whole conversations with your pup, or wanting to squish his little face!
But one mom recently got a little too panicked about the possibility of the family dog disappearing, and texted her son Jeff to make sure the pup was safely at home.
She sent him a picture of what she thought to be her dog, supposedly picked up by the dog officer. Jeff had to do a double take when he realized what Mom had sent him.

A young man named Jeff Squires caused a stir online when he shared a post reading, "Yesterday I learned that my mom has no idea what our dog looks like."
It all started when Jeff got a text from his mom, asking in a panic about their dog Duey.
She sent him a photo of a pup, and asked him whether he had seen the dog lately.
Now, a lost dog is nothing to joke about, but when Jeff saw the picture Mom had sent of "Duey" with animal control, he lost it, and had to share it on Twitter, where it was quickly favorited 500,000 times.

Jeff's mom was, very rightfully, worried when she reached out her son.
"Is Dewy [sic] home?" she wrote.
Jeff wasn't home at the time, so he wasn't sure about Duey's whereabouts. Then his mom sent a snap of a fluffy white pup.

She was pretty sure that the pup in the photo was Duey, out on a grand off-leash adventure.
She wrote: "Ok – I saw a picture on FB that said these two dogs were picked up by the warden in Grafton and it looked like him – what do you think?"
Jeff had to let her down gently. It was really clear to him that the dog in the picture was not Duey.
"That's not Duey," he wrote. "Duey has a brown face."

He quickly fired off another picture, just to remind her what their dog does look like.
Duey is a Jack Russell terrier, with, as noted above, a brown face.

Here's Jeff and Duey together, posing for the camera.
As you can see, Duey is a little guy, easily picked up under one arm.
The other dog looks like some kind of retriever mix, and he outweighs little Duey considerably!

"She just saw a white dog, and assumed it was Duey," Jeff wrote on Twitter.
Of course, we'll never fault Mom's instincts, she just wanted to make sure she was looking out for the family pup. Her heart was clearly in the right place.

Now the whole family is using the humorous situation and accidental fame for a good cause.
Jeff is using his newfound Twitter influence to spread the word about the fluffy white pup who is definitely not Duey.
Jeff says that the pooch picked up by the warden still hasn't connected with his family, so he's asking everyone to take a look and see if they know where Duey's doppelgänger belongs!

Meanwhile, Duey is enjoying his 15 minutes of fame thoroughly, from the comfort of his own home.
