9 Beloved Pet Chickens Get Breakfast Of A Lifetime Thanks To Loving Teen Girl

If you have a pet in your life, you probably already know that people will do some crazy things for the animals they love.

For example, if you’ve ever found yourself researching five-star doggie spas at 3 a.m., or trying to sort out which organic cat food is the most ethically sourced, you can take comfort in the fact that you’re still not on the same level as the guy buying a miniature travel camper for his stylish dog to sleep in.

You’re also probably not on the same level as a teenager in Illinois, who took her love for her nine pet chickens to a whole new level.

There are countless ways to pamper your pet, but Sarah Kulevich entered a new class when she decided to fix them a truly gourmet breakfast.

How gourmet? Well, let’s just say it’s a breakfast that we humans probably wouldn’t turn down — and that would taste mighty fine with maple syrup!

Sarah Kulevich, an 18-year-old from Illinois, recently became a minor Twitter celebrity when she posted a picture of a platter full of teeny-tiny pancakes.

These bite-size flapjacks are notable for their size, but also for their destination.

That's because Kulevich explains in her tweet that the mini cakes are a treat for her pet chickens!

She fried up dozens of the tiny breakfast cakes for her chickens, and divided them up into nine clear plastic cups—one for each of the nine pet chickens she shares with her sister.

The little pancakes are each about the size of a quarter.

With their diminutive size, they would be less than a mouthful for a human, but are perfectly suited for a chicken's much smaller beak.

Kulevich put the pancakes out in the backyard in the little cups for the chickens to eat at their leisure.

She explained her actions succinctly in the accompanying tweet, writing, "So this morning I made my chickens tiny pancakes bc I love them and they is good chickens."

Well, can't argue with that logic!

Judging from the physical appearance of the pancakes, she based the pancakes on a classic "silver dollar" pancake style — except even smaller!

According to her comments, she just mixed up ordinary pancake batter, minus the eggs and oil, and then dropped it into the pan with a turkey baster to form tiny cakes.

We imagine that they fried it up awfully fast, and she probably had to keep an eye out to keep them from burning.

While her initial tweet was brief, Kulevich went into more detail in the comments and in an interview with BuzzFeed.

She's quick to assure her many fans and commenters that she was careful to use an egg-free mix to whip up the pancake batter.

She also addresses the attention lavished on the birds, explaining that they're her only pets and get the bulk of her attention as a result.

Pancakes, for those wondering, are perfectly safe for chickens to eat as a special treat, as long as they aren't too heavily processed.

Most domestic chickens eat grain, with bread as an occasional treat, and bugs as a built-in supplement.

Pancakes, as long as they aren't too heavy in sugar or salt, and aren't slathered in syrup, are totally fine for chickens, according to Backyard Chickens.

For anyone else who keeps chickens in the backyard, it might be a trend worth taking note!

Not only is it adorable, and very social-media-friendly, your chickens will absolutely love it!
