Do you plan on dressing up your pup for Halloween? How about taking them out trick-or-treating with you?
Halloween is personally one of my favorite holidays, but as fun as it is, it's also an important time to exercise caution and safety, as in all of the excitement things can get a little rowdy, especially if you're an animal!
Thanks to vetStreet for these excellent tips on keeping your beloved pooch or kitten safe this year.
Keeping these safety tips in mind could help you and your avoid disaster and ensure that everyone (pets especially) have a safe and happy Halloween.

1. Keep pet costumes and safe and comfortable.

No matter what animal you're dressing up, make sure that the costume of choicw doesn't bother your animal. If they squirm, refuse to wear it or attempt to rip it off, don't force them into it.
If your animal friend seems content in their costume, ensure that it fits them well and has nothing like buttons, strings, beads, or threads that they can chew off and potentially choke on.
Limit the amount of time your pet spends in his or her costume.
2. Keep the human treats away from your pet.

Ensure that your pet doesn't get into any candy, as it can be potentially deadly for them to consume.
Instead, why don't you try some dog-friendly biscuits and treats for Halloween, or give kitty some catnip!
3. Let your dog sit out on trick-or-treating this year.

While it may sound temping to bring your pooch along and show off his awesome costume, this could potentially lead to a disastrous situation.
All of the excitement, noise, flashing lights, and potentially overexcited neighborhood kids could prove to be too much for your pet. Best to leave them at home and share their costume online instead.
4. Watch out for escape artists.

If you plan on welcoming trick-or-treaters to your home, keep your pet in their crate, on a leash, or in a separate room of the house where they won't be bothered by the constant ring of the doorbell, loud noises, or be tempted to make a break for it.
This is not the night you want to chase Fluffy down the street!
As an extra precaution, consider getting your pet microchipped, and always make sure they are wearing a collar with proper identification.
5. Be wary of potentially dangerous decorations.

Don't let your pets near the Jack-o-Lanterns or edible decorations, as eating them could cause them to become sick. Just as well, they could easily knock over one and cause a fire.
Any scary decorations that make noise or sudden movements could be terrifying for your pet, so keep them well out of reach.
Secure any stringed lights so that your pets do not become tangled in them or trip over the wires.
