When Halligan, a pit bull-Lab mix, was found by the side of the road by a snowplow driver in December, he was covered in mud and starving, and he was suffering from frostbite. The pup's condition was heartbreaking to see for the firefighters of the Star County Fire Department.
They suspect that the pup was abandoned in the freezing temperatures. Although Halligan's past is certainly sad, his future looks very bright.
With a little love and care, the 2-year-old dog has been able to recover from his injuries. Though there are still traces of frostbite on his body, he's grown into a happy and healthy companion to the firefighters, who have decided to take him in. Since he's lived with them, they've noticed a huge change in the firehouse. It seems that it wasn't just the dog who needed to go through a healing process, but her new friends too.
With the pup doing remarkably well, he's brought so much joy and comfort to the firefighters, especially after a hard day on the job.
Halligan is such a positive presence and an obedient dog that he's now being trained to become a station therapy dog.
The firefighters even noticed that Halligan already knew a few basic commands!
