Jose Rosas had any pet owner's greatest fear come true: he lost his beloved pit bull, Piglet. Now we know all about the public perception of pit bulls: A stray pit bull roaming the streets isn't always exactly welcomed with open arms.
However, a few police officers from the California Highway Patrol went above and beyond to reunite the lost pit bull with her owners.
The CHP posted a photo on their Facebook page with a message asking if anyone knew her owner. Officer Sean Wilkenfeld wrote, “She’s very sweet and clearly has been taken care of by someone. We found her with a red collar but no tags.”
The day after the photo was posted, Jose Rosas contacted the CHP. "By the time I knew she was gone, we had no idea which way she went,” he said. “So we were looking for her about three hours all the way down 85th (Avenue), East 14th. But none of us thought to check the freeway. So, thank you to whoever pulled over and stopped her."
Piglet and Rosas were reunited, but not before Piglet was made an honorary officer.
The CHP wrote on their Facebook page that she was "given the honorary title of Junior Officer for her bravery. She was even brave enough to go for one last ride in a patrol car."
We love a story with a happy ending!
