It’s every parent’s worst nightmare: after dropping your child off at their favorite club, you get a call that there was a terrible accident. While I’ve been fortunate never to receive an emergency call like this, I’m very happy to report that this video did not turn out that way — but it certainly could have.
A little girl is riding an appropriately sized pony when they make their first jump together, but something goes wrong at the last second. She’s thrown forward from her saddle, and all too quickly, the momentum of the pony’s pace carries her right over the poor creature’s head.
It feels a lot like watching a car accident, at least in my experience. Everything slows down and your awareness is heightened as it all happens — and whether that’s the shock or something else, I couldn’t say.
Ponies are all too often the unsung heroes when their far larger and more popular cousins always get the spotlight.
They work just as hard, and so deserve the royal treatment after being rescued by loving humans. Luckily, many shelters like the Hillside Animal Sanctuary are working to find these animals the perfect forever home.
What’s most impressive about this whole video is what the pony does at the end. (Yes, you read that correctly!) As keenly in tune with our animals as we are, they are often the ones who know us best.
It was quick thinking on this magnificent pony’s part that saved the girl’s life!
