No one enjoys public speaking. It was one of the worst classes to take in high school.
Getting in front of a big group or large crowd can be incredibly nerve-racking. The pressure is always one. What if you stutter? What if you forget what you're saying?
American University has come up with a solution to public speaking nerves. Dogs!
In a study, they had students from the university practice their public speaking in front of dogs. As dogs are a nonjudgmental audience, the theory is that you will feel calmer practicing in front of them. Even if a dog could judge you, they have no way of verbalizing that judgment and making you feel inferior.
Some students were skeptical — how could talking to a dog possibly help with public speaking? It's not like they can give you pointers or tell you what you need to work on!
But after actually going through with the study, you'll see that the students found this helpful. I wish they'd had this when I was in school, I'd have offered to be a test subject right away! Would you like to see what it's like to practice speaking in front of a doggie audience?
