Convicts Train Puppies Into Service Dogs For Disabled Soldiers. Absolute GENIUS!

Puppies Behind Bars – it sounds like a bad thing, doesn't it?! You may not have heard of this amazing organization yet, but you should definitely know about it.

The Puppies Behind Bars program was started in 1997 with the idea that inmates in New York area correctional facilities would be the perfect candidates to help train service dogs for Wounded Warriors suffering from problems like Post Traumatic Stress Disorder after their military service. For many soldiers, coming home can be too much to handle with PTSD and having a service dog detect and ease their stress can make a world of a difference.

The program also helps the inmates too, as they take on responsibility and learn affection again. According to PBB's mission statement "As the puppies mature into well-loved, well-behaved dogs, their raisers learn what it means to contribute to society rather than take from it." Can you think of a more perfect match?! This makes me so happy for all parties involved – they're truly making the world a better place, one pup at a time.
