There are all sorts of interesting things to be found in Florida, from underwater sea life to lizards and snakes that can be found on land.
This segment posted on YouTube by Inside Edition shows footage of a 5-foot-long alligator that was found inside a Burmese python that was itself a whopping 18 feet long.
Rosie Moore, a geoscientist in Florida, shared the tale of how some fieldworkers who were working with some invasive vegetation happened to stumble upon this massive python.
She explained that it’s recommended by the state of Florida to euthanize a python of this size due to its invasive status and the amount of ecological damage it can cause, so that’s what the workers did.
One thing they didn’t anticipate was the extreme length of the python, which wasn’t fully appreciated until they had it in their workspace.
“It’s crazy because you walk in a room and the snake is just … going from one end of the room to the other. And it’s just incredible to see in person,” Moore explained. She noted that a 5-foot alligator didn’t even compare to the sheer length of the python.
One of the really interesting things about this, though, is how the python was able to attack and conquer an alligator, which is also defined as an apex predator.
Moore explained that both alligators and Burmese pythons can be quite dangerous, and it really depends on where they’re at in their life cycle in order to determine who might come out on top.
