Everyone who owns a dog knows how loving and caring they can be. Not only do they adore the company of their humans, many of them also love playing with other animals.
Typically people think that dogs prefer to play with other dogs, but there are plenty of pups who prove that true friendships know no limits of species.
Just look at this unlikely friendship between a Belgian shepherd and a tiny owl, or this interspecies friendship between a husky and a pair of enormous horses.
One thing most dog owners know is that dogs don't discriminate when it comes to friendship.
One dog, Ruby, was rescued from an abusive home and brought to an animal sanctuary in Lancefield, Victoria. Ruby lived happily as a rescue dog at the animal sanctuary, but one day three piglets showed up.
At first, Ruby seemed somewhat suspicious of the three small pigs, but when they were nothing but friendly toward her, she grew to love them like they were her own kids.
Edgar's Mission, the animal sanctuary that houses Ruby and the three rescue pigs, said the piglets were saved from "inhospitable" circumstances, and most of their siblings hadn't survived.
When they arrived at the sanctuary, they were looking for a surrogate family — and that's exactly what Ruby became. Now Ruby puts up with the playful piglets' antics, and even gets in on the fun sometimes.
