It was the morning after a heavy snowfall in the picturesque Colorado town of Breckenridge. The mountains were covered in white snow, and it was shaping up to be a beautiful, brisk winter day.
But when resident Andy Carver and his wife opened their blinds to let in the morning light, they saw something totally unexpected.
On the roof of their garage, nestled in the snow, was a pair of red foxes, spending a few moments taking in the sun and view from the Carvers' roof.
But they couldn't help but wonder, how did they get up there? The answer was actually quite simple.
Over the past week, Breckenridge has received about four feet of snow, which means it's piled up all over the place, especially in areas that have been plowed and shoveled.
The foxes, being clever as well as cute, simply used the piled-up snow like steps to climb up to their unique resting spot.
And really, it was a pretty sweet place to take a little rest. It was off the ground, relatively safe, and gave them a good vantage point.
It also made Andy Carver's day. He snapped a few photos, so now it can make your day, too!

This was the unexpected sight greeting Breckenridge, CO, resident Andy Carver and his wife one morning: two red foxes perched on the snowy roof of his garage!
Andy was so surprised that he says it took him a few minutes to really register what he was seeing because he was only "half awake."
"I was shocked," he says. "I was like, 'What in the heck is that?' because I had just opened my eyes. My wife had just opened the blinds and that was the first thing I saw. I was like, 'How did they get up there? What is going on?'"
The foxes, meanwhile, seemed quite content where they were, and lay curled up, using their bushy tails to keep warm.
While the sight of them might have surprised the Carvers at first, they soon realized how the foxes had gotten to their perch on the roof.
They'd simply climbed a large pile of snow like stairs.
Andy says the foxes hung out for about an hour, then went on their way.
Breckenridge, a beautiful mountain town known for its skiing and winter sports, received about four feet of snow over the past week.
Foxes, which are native to the area, have thick winter fur this time of year, so curling up for a nap in the snow is no problem for them.
Foxes are comfortable around human habitats, and are a common sight around Breckenridge.
Though some people think of them as dangerous, foxes generally like to be left alone, and will not harm a human unless they feel threatened.
The state's parks and wildlife department advises against feeding wild animals, and also warns against letting kids and pets get in contact with them, as they can harbor diseases.
But for the most part, these bushy-tailed critters are another part of the natural beauty of the region.
