‘Running Of The Pugs’ Is The Safe, Adorable Version Of The ‘Running Of The Bulls’

We know that you’ve heard of the ‘Running of the Bulls,’ but have you ever heard of the ‘Running of the Pugs?' Well, if you’re anything like us, you probably haven't.

The Running of the Bulls is a famous tradition in the Spanish city of Pamplona, preceding the annual bullfighting festivities. It’s a huge tourist draw for the city, but unfortunately, it’s also very dangerous for humans and bulls alike, because bulls have a strong defensive instinct.

Fortunately, thanks to Mashable, there's now a slightly more cuddly version of the centuries-old tradition, in which ‘bullfighting’ has been replaced with ‘puppy kisses,’ and ‘bulls’ with ‘adorable chubby pugs.’ As it turns out, pugs are not nearly as speedy as bulls, but they also seem like much, much happier participants.

Drawing from the snuggly ranks of the NYC Pug Meetup Group, Mashable created a miniature version of the Spanish city and unleashed the hordes! Or at least they tried to. There was a lot less majestic racing and a lot more curious snuffling in this version of the event, but they did manage to trample lots of tiny plastic onlookers.

Well, trample might be too strong a word. A more accurate description of what happened to these brave citizens might be, ‘puppy-loved and kissed to death.’ If that sounds cute to you, it’s because it really, really is!
