She Would Have Died In A Shelter. But Instead, A Stranger Trained Her To Do Something INCREDIBLE

There is nothing more devastating than hearing (or reading) the phrase "doggie death row."

The thought that a living thing can be discarded because no one can find a good home for them is heartbreaking.

Fortunately, as we spread more awareness about the difficult lives of stray dogs, more organizations and kind folks are taking action.

Enter: Universal K9, an organization that is changing the way we think about police dogs.

Traditionally, police dogs have been purebred. The pure breeds are often raised and trained in Europe and cost thousands of dollars. Though every dog needs love and purpose, Universal K9 recognizes that shelter dogs, while usually not pure bred, are smart and loyal enough to work along side the men in blue.

"All they need is a chance to prove themselves and these dogs will work every bit as hard as the purebred dogs that we bring in from overseas," said founder and trainer Brad Croft.

The San Antonio, TX-based organization has saved around 100 dogs from euthanasia with the help of its (mostly Military trained) team. The shelter dogs are enrolled in an eight-week class and, after graduation, they're welcomed into police departments.
