I'm a big lover of animal rescue stories. It's a comfort to know that there are people out there who take time to help other species, especially when those species may not be able to help themselves.
A British farmer, Gary Watkinson, recently had a rescue experience that he did not expect. He was accustomed to seeing wild animals like deer, foxes and rabbits in the fields around his town. Certainly a wild seal was one of the last things he expected to see, but that's exactly what happened.
Experts from the local wildlife protection agency (the RSPCA) guess that the poor sea mammal must have swam 20 miles away from his home through the Merseyside River before getting agitated, lost and disoriented. Locals from around the town gathered to try to help the poor creature, but the seal was angry and confused.
Since the local townspeople didn't have the required knowledge to be able to rescue a wild creature like a seal, experts were immediately notified. Policemen, firefighters and members of the RSCPA used brooms and metal fences to help hoist the heavy animal into an RSPCA trailer.
The seal is now being monitored by experts at the British Divers Marine Life Rescue agency. They hope to return him to his native habitat as soon as they know he is in excellent condition.

According to witnesses, the poor animal seemed confused and distressed. He dragged himself quite far from the nearest source of water.
The seal measured over five feet long. Members of the British Divers Marine Life Rescue Service (BDMLR) who were called on to the scene warn that seals can actually be somewhat aggressive, but fortunately, they have experts who handle these animals.
No one knows what could have motivated this brave little guy to wander so far from his home.
The seal became something of a local celebrity within hours. Traffic piled up with onlookers who wanted to get a glimpse of strange visitor.
Apparently, the seal was not friendly to strangers who tried to approach it. That's not a surprising fact considering how disoriented the seal must have been.

A whole community came together to save this one poor animal.
The poor thing was disturbed, but he's now in good hands and will be returned to his natural habitat soon.
Imagine waking up and seeing this in your backyard! Thank goodness that they found him on time.
It's still a mystery how this seal came to this field, but hopefully he won't make the same mistake again.
