Healthy Dried Sweet Potato Chews

Sweet potatoes are loaded with beneficial antioxidants and nutrients. They are rich in vitamins A, C, and E; vitamins B1, B2, B3, and B6; and minerals calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, and potassium. They also contain valuable anti-inflammatory nutrients and are classified as an anti-diabetic food.

Ingredients

  • 2 to 3 large sweet potatoes, washed thoroughly and dried

Preparation

  1. Preheat oven to 250°F.
  2. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  3. Cut off one side of the sweet potato lengthwise and turn the potato on the flat side you created. (Don't discard the other side!)
  4. Cut potato into slices, no smaller than 1/4 inch, and place them on the prepared baking sheets.
  5. Bake for 3 hours, turning over after 90 minutes. If your dog prefers a more crunchy dog treat, then bake for an additional 20 to 30 minutes.
  6. Let sweet potatoes cool completely on a wire rack. The sweet potatoes may appear soft, but they will continue to dry and firm up while cooling.
  7. Store finished dog treats in the refrigerator for up to three weeks, or freeze them.
