These Dogs Couldn’t Walk. What He Did To Change That? I’m In TEARS!

There are plenty of pets out there that have a lot of years left in them, but the wear and tear on their legs, backs, and other areas after years of playing, running, and jumping makes it hard, if not impossible, for them to walk normally without assistance.

My very own sister's miniature pinscher, for instance, needs a set of wheels to get around, as her back problems have made her hind legs nearly unusable in recent years. Other than that loss of mobility, however, the pooch is happy and healthy!

One kind computer programmer in Serbia noticed the same problem with many of the dogs in the region where he lives. When his own dog, Mica, suffered an injury to her spine, however, he came up with a way to not only help his own pup, but many other dogs in Serbia as well.

That's when Dragan Dimitrijevic made Mica a wheelchair with parts that he could find readily — plastic piping, worn belts, and small wheels. He fashioned the pieces together into a makeshift dog wheelchair, plopped Mica down in it, and she was off and running like new.

Once he had the first wheelchair built, other dog owners came calling, wondering how he might be able to help their canine friends as well.

Since then, Dimitrijevic has made over 80 wheelchairs for both dogs and cats all over Serbia.

“I have a soft spot for dogs,” Dimitrijevic told the Associated Press. “A wheelchair is not a cure, but it enables them to run, sniff, do all the things other dogs normally do.”

And that, really, is all dogs want. Way to go, Dragan!
