Every dog owner's worst nightmare is coming home to find that their dog isn't there. Whether they've run away, been injured, or been stolen — it's always heartbreaking to learn your dog is missing.
A woman from Oakland, CA, experienced that heartbreaking moment last year when her dog Mama was stolen from her home.
Now, almost a year after Mama was taken, she's at a shelter in Minnesota, apparently having somehow traveled thousands of miles in the past year.
Mama ended up as a stray and was brought to an animal control facility in Minnesota, but because she had a microchip, the shelter was able to track her home and get in contact with her owner!
A group of volunteers has even offered to drive Mama all the way back to California. The group, A Rotta Love Plus, is happy to bring Mama home to her family. Their director, Michelle Klatt, says Mama's story proves why it's so important to get your pets microchipped — it may take a while for a lost or stolen pet to show up, but if and when they do, a microchip makes it easy to track down their owners.
The volunteers are fundraising for gas, food, and lodging money to get Mama home.
It's so heartwarming to see a story of a stolen dog with a happy ending like this one — please SHARE it with other dog lovers you know!
