We recently posted a video about a heroic military dog named Kay who needed life-saving heart surgery, but his owner Brandon didn't have the money to pay for it. This is an incredible update on that story, and it will truly touch your heart.
After two tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, Brandon Donahue and his military dog Kay were ready for retirement. Kay, who was adopted as a puppy from a shelter and then trained to sniff out IEDs to make sure foot soldiers were safe on the ground, routinely put himself in harm's way, and Brandon estimates that he may have saved thousands of lives.
Earlier in the year, Brandon (who went on to adopt Kay after their tour ended) realized that Kay needed life-saving heart surgery, but he couldn't afford it. So, he looked to the Internet for help and started an online fundraiser. After reading about Kay's story, the Internet has successfully joined together to fund the entire surgical process!
Kay has officially received the surgery that will prolong his life, and Brandon is incredibly thankful to everyone who helped him give Kay the life he deserves.
"He put his life in danger more than I did sometimes," Brandon says. "it just means the world that we were able to return the favor."
