Three-legged animals get no love sometimes. For a time, the three-pawed pets were labelled un-adoptable by shelters. Fortunately, people have come to embrace these special needs animals who need and deserve love just as much as the rest.
Contrary to popular belief, tripod animals can live long, healthy lives with the proper care. Today, in some shelters, they've become the most coveted pets. Not just a novelty anymore, three-legged animals have turned out to be as cute, playful and devoted as the rest.
Tripedalism refers to animals with only three legs, but no such mammals occur in nature; thus, when you see a three-legged dog or cat, it is usually the result of an injury or deformity. There are, however, tripod fish that navigate the ocean floors with a mere three fins.
