Meet Toast, a beautiful King Charles Spaniel who was rescued from a North Carolina puppy mill back in 2011.
When she was found, all of Toast's teeth were rotten and had to be removed.
Most puppies suffer the same kind of neglect and abuse or worse at mills, which are commercial dog-breeding facilities that supply most of the dogs you see at pet stores. Veterinary care, weather protection, and climate control are rare luxuries, and animals can spend most of their time in cramped cages without any relief.
Luckily, Toast's story has a very happy ending.
She ended up being adopted by two very loving pet parents, who enjoy taking photos of their adorable pup whose floppy tongue is always hanging out due to her lack of teeth. She enjoys plenty of soft and hard foods recommended by her vet.
