100-Year-Old Tortoise Runs Away, Then Mom Sees Her Unthinkable Romance

There are few pets that can outlive human beings, but a tortoise is one of them. In fact, Nancy Knauss has had her pet tortoise, Touche, for 55 years. Touche is 100 years old and is showing no signs of slowing down.

Can you imagine losing a companion you've had for that long? It's not easy. One day, the gardeners left her gate open, and Touche escaped. Heartbroken, Nancy put up flyers around the neighborhood.

“We posted on a lot of sites, and we put flyers in the neighbors’ mailboxes saying that we had lost a tortoise, and please keep your eyes open,” Nancy said.

Luckily, a hero named Steven George found Touche, 10 days later, more than six and a half miles away. He brought Touche back home.

Quite hilariously, George discovered Touche "caught in the act," if you know what I mean. The lady tortoise was mounting a gray, dome-shaped drain cover that starkly resembled a tortoise's shell! The newscaster could not stop cracking up about it.

Nancy had a good chuckle, but is just happy to be reunited with her best friend.

“Yes, there’s a lot of bad in our world right now, but there are a lot of very really good people that care too,” she said.
