Sydney Smoot considers herself "a well-educated young lady" who has a bit of a problem with the way her county school board office runs things.
Smoot isn't happy with having all of her schooling coming down to one state-mandated assessment test at the end of the year, which only covers a small percentage of everything she has learned over time.
While Smoot might not be as angry as the baby who had his playtime interrupted, she still proved her mettle in this awe-inspiring speech!
She called out the ridiculousness of the new Common Core type testing standards, and the absurdity in Florida of paying a private company to create these FSA (Florida Standards Assessment) tests. Point-by-point, she shows the flaws in these educational failings, and she does so with grace, humility, and all-around impressive intelligence, showing her talents as an orator.
"One test defines me either as a failure or a success through a numbered rubric." she defiantly said to the crowd of adults. I have to say, I've seen a lot of speeches in my time, but this one is delivered so logically and so calmly that it's obvious that this little girl has a future ahead of her.
It's one thing to have the intelligence to understand all the problems in the world, but to be able to voice those problems so accurately and passionately… Let's just say I won't be surprised when I see Smoot in congress or even on the 2044 Presidential ticket!
