‘America’s Got Talent’ Contestant Shocks Judges With His Song Choice

When Alex Boye and his band stepped on stage to audition for America’s Got Talent, I never expected them to perform a Taylor Swift hit.

Boye, who we’ve already seen do an incredible rendition of Bruno Mars’ "Uptown Funk," usually adds an “African twist” to his music — and it certainly works.

This time he changed up the beat to Swift’s “Shake It Off” and performed while wearing a colorful feathered shoulder piece. (And make sure to pay attention to his little shimmy at the 1:27 mark!)

The judges — Howie Mandel, Howard Stern, Mel B, and Heidi Klum — were amused and gave Boye and his band the approval to go to the next round.

“That definitely woke everybody up. You filled the whole room with your excited energy,” Mel B told them. “I didn’t want it to stop. Thank you for auditioning today. That was brilliant.”

The U.K. native, who now lives in Salt Lake City, already has a YouTube following with more than 400,000 subscribers and over 100 million views. Now he hopes to take it further.

“My dream is to absolutely slay it with these incredible people in our own Vegas show and everyone coming to see us every single day, every weekend,” he told the judges.
