Special-Needs Student Sees Huge Crowd In Hallway, Then Boy Emerges With A Bouquet

Alex Hagan and James Garcia got to know each other pretty well in recent months.

In the video below, posted on February 24, 2017, Alex explains, "He helps me play basketball."

James assisted students with special needs, like Alex, during their gym period. That gym class kindled a very special bond between the two Northglenn High School students.

James says, "She's definitely a smart, funny girl and makes everyone's day just being around her."

Their bond had grown so much, Alex decided she wanted to ask James to prom. The junior didn't realize that her friend already had other plans in mind.

One day, Alex was greeted by a confusing sight as she entered school — a string quartet.

"There was like, lines of people and I didn't know what was going on, so I [felt] nervous," Alex recalls. She was pushed through a sea of her classmates, who were gathered in front of a big red sign that read "PROM?"

As the beautiful violins played and James stepped in with a colorful bouquet of flowers, Alex realized it was all for her. James had beaten her to the prom proposal punch.

"It's definitely going to be something I'm going to remember forever, so hopefully, I'm hoping to make it something she'll remember," James says, proud of his extensive planning and happy that Alex said yes.
