Crafty Woodworker Transforms Ordinary Wood Into An Incredible American Flag Coffee Table

A month ago, an anonymous user on Imgur shared his incredible coffee table design for us all to see.

Though it appeared quite simple at first glance, the DIY project was crafted with immense care and ended up being one of the most spectacular American flag-themed pieces of furniture I'd ever seen.

Many ingenious crafters all over the country boast their own flag-themed art pieces — in fact, I count this beautiful American flag mosaic made of beer bottle caps among my favorites.

But this piece of Americana isn't just crafted with care. It's the most intriguing of all coffee tables thanks to the use of recycled materials. With just a few scraps of leftover wood and a trip to Home Depot, this DIY-er managed to shape one of the most impressive piece of art and furniture you can add to your home.

An anonymous Imgur recently uploaded his magnificent coffee table design on the internet — and boy, were we impressed!

He planned to build a tabletop that was proportional to an actual American flag.

After shopping around at Home Depot, he gathered enough supplies to start constructing.

He started by making a frame with 2×4 planks, which were fitted with nails and wood glue.

After the dimensions were checked for accuracy, he stained the wood with red strips, allowing the coats to dry overnight.

This is what the top looked like after the staining was completed.

Each slat on the outer frame had to be brushed down with stain, as well.

Additional planks were joined together to create a more stable frame for the table.

Pocket holes were then drilled into the frame, so that the tabletop could be mounted.

To give you an idea of the size of the frame, take a look at this picture, where it stands in proportion to other real-life objects.

Next, the tabletop was finally fastened onto the frame.

Here it is… almost finished!

After mounting brackets to tack the hairpin legs onto the table, he used a full-size star stencil, which was given by a "church friend."

Due to its large width, the stencil was cut in two pieces, then joined back together. Any gaps were patched manually with painter's tape.

Lastly, a silver metallic spray paint was used on the stencil to imprint the star pattern.

Afterward, two coats of spray polyurethane and two coats of brush-on satin finish polyurethane were applied to the tabletop surface.

The stain was oil-based, which made the paint smear a little bit.

To remedy this, six more coats of stain were applied, allowing the surface to glisten beautifully.

All that effort was definitely worth it in the end. What an eye-catching living room table!
