When photographer Isobel Springett heard “terrible, heart-wrenching” cries coming from her backyard one day, she ran out to see what it was. Standing there, all alone and trembling was an incredibly underweight fawn who had been abandoned by her mother. Isobel brought the young deer inside her house to care for it, and the deer immediately found a best friend for life: a Great Dane named Kate.

Now Kate and “Pip” spend every waking moment together, they’ve been featured on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and they’ve even had children’s books written about them in several countries.
