Andrew Peterson Performs His Prayerful Song “Shine Your Light On Me”

Andrew Peterson is a musician in Nashville, but don’t mistake him for a Nashville musician.

“In the city of Nashville where music is an industry in the same way fast food, generic greeting cards, and bumper stickers are industries,” says his website, Peterson is forging his own, more spiritual path. Like Carrie Underwood resists convention, he’s not interested in adhering to the unspoken rules of the music business.

Currently, he’s working on a retrospective that pieces together his many years as serving as a quiet leader in the Christian community. While he’s never chased fame, he has been building his practice and his music for so many years that he now has a comprehensive body of work to reflect a lifetime spent pursuing his greater purpose.

Like young musician Sarah Morris, Peterson took his time before emerging as a light for the faithful, making beautiful music about his individual journey toward a higher power. For the past twenty years, he has been releasing mellow, contemplative songs exploring the twisting path of belief.

This song, performed for Faith Village, is called ‘Shine Your Light On Me,’ and follows Peterson on a metaphorical journey towards religion. The son of a pastor, Peterson describes questioning his faith as a teenager and young adult, but feeling buoyed by the brotherhood of his audiences, and coming to the see the spotlight as a way of standing in a spiritual light.
