Anna Nicole Smith’s 14-Year-Old Daughter Traces Her Mom’s Path To Overdose

It's been almost 14 years since the death of Anna Nicole Smith, who rose to fame as a Playboy model in the '90s and died of a drug overdose in 2007.

Anna Nicole died just months after giving birth to her daughter, Dannielynn. And now Dannielynn is a teenager who is ready to learn more about her mother's life.

Dannielynn's father, Larry Birkhead, says he has been open yet cautious when it comes to teaching his daughter about her blond bombshell mom … but now that Dannielynn is 14, she's becoming more interested and more capable of understanding the complexities.

"I have a daughter who doesn't have a mom," Larry says. "I have to paint a picture for Dannielynn of who her mom was."

Larry has been raising Dannielynn as a single father outside of Louisville, Kentucky. It's a place where he can provide his daughter with as normal and grounded a lifestyle as possible, away from the spotlight.

Together, Dannielynn and Larry returned to Anna Nicole's small hometown of Mexia, Texas, to retrace her roots and learn more about her in the process.

The dad/daughter road trip is featured in an upcoming special for 20/20. Watch clips from the special in the video below.
