Most children look forward to Christmas and the holiday season all year. They come up with Christmas lists, write letters to Santa Claus, and are too excited to sleep when Christmas Eve rolls around.
For some kids, though, Christmas Day is tinged with sadness. These are the kids who have to spend their Christmases in the hospital.
Many kids who are stuck in the hospital on Christmas Day are there for long periods of time, suffering from debilitating illnesses. For many of them, all they want for Christmas is to be healthy. But that isn't always possible.
That's where Australian photographer Karen Aslop comes in. This year, Karen visited Monash Children's Hospital in Melbourne, Australia, to make sick kids' Christmas dreams come true.
Karen set up a studio in the hospital and brought in a Santa Claus for children to take photos with. She took pictures of the children posing with Santa, either on his lap or next to him from their hospital beds.
Then, she used Photoshop to digitally alter the images, transporting the children from the Australian hospital to the wintry wonderland that is the North Pole.
When the photos were complete, Karen and her team framed and wrapped them, then delivered them to the sick children and their families.
According to CNN, "Aslop hopes the photos will let the kids imagine a world beyond the confines of the hospital."
