Woman Proposes To Her Boyfriend On Live TV In Romantic Leap Day Tradition

Every four years, February gets an extra boost known as Leap Day. Ordinarily only 28 days long, the petite month stretches one day longer to help keep our calendar in balance. While that might make things tricky for anyone born on that day deciding when exactly to celebrate their birthday, the odd day also comes with a set of adorable traditions.

Remember the old Sadie Hawkins dances at school? For those shindigs, it was the girls who got to ask the fellas for a date rather than the traditional male-initiated process. Of course, times have changed so much since that's been the normal practice that the idea seems pretty silly to most current students. Today's young ladies have no problem speaking up, like the cheerleader who asked her special friend to the prom despite her friends' attempts to talk her out of it. But back in the day, it was seen as a pretty radical practice!

Leap Day celebrations in parts of Europe are similar in that regard where it's customary for a woman to ask for a man's hand in marriage. According to legend, if the man refuses, he must then either give her money or provide her with plenty of gifts, such as nice gloves to cover up the embarrassing lack of a ring on her finger. Luckily, this woman won't have to worry about such things after popping the question to her boyfriend on live TV.

The Ambleside, Cumbria, couple are a tad awkward as they go through the motions, both making silly jokes throughout the sweet moment.
