Mom Delivers Baby In Police Department Parking Lot

Ralph Laderoot and his pregnant wife, Constance, were heading to the hospital as she went into labor. They soon realized they wouldn’t make it in time.

Frantic, the Michigan native called 911. At first he sounded calm, but then the urgency was heard in his voice as he began repeating the words “Oh my God, Oh my God!"

The operator told Mr. Laderoot to pull into the Westland Police Department, adding, "I'm going to get rescue on the way, and I'll get somebody out there.”

That’s when Sgt. Robert Kenyon and few other officers came to the couple’s aid, reminiscent of the moment the Seattle cop who helped deliver a baby in a car. Surveillance video shows the officers quickly walking over to the car.

“We ran out, met them in the parking lot,” the sergeant told Detroit’s WXYZ-TV. “I put on some gloves and I received the baby.”

Sgt. Kenyon took all the proper precautions: he made sure the umbilical cord wasn’t wrapped around the baby boy’s neck and made sure to hear him cry.

"That was a great relief to know that [the baby] was breathing," he said.

The couple named the healthy baby boy Hayden Adam and he weighed 7 lbs., 7 oz., according to a local news report.
