I have often repeated the old saying, "when life hands you lemons, make lemonade."
I'm a pretty optimistic person, so I tend to be excited about the possibilities of each new day. It's kind of exciting how many possibilities there are. Okay, so today might not be the day I hit the lottery, but maybe I'll win a scratch-off, like the homeless man who wins $1,000. Maybe I'll get a promotion at work. Or maybe I'll just see a baby who makes me smile, like the infant who discovers her own reflection.
As unpredictable as life can be, it's important to remember that now and again life throws us curveballs as well. In the case of Holli Cheung, when she suddenly fainted while holding her three-month-old baby, she certainly had no idea what life had in store.
Holli tells the Mirror her heartwarming and miraculous story that proves just how strong a mother-child bond can be.
On New Year's Day, Holli was rushed to the hospital where she received some of the most shocking and heartbreaking news of her life. Her prognosis was extremely grim. But when her baby boy Jordan came to visit Holli in the hospital, an absolute miracle occurred!

On New Year's Day, new mother Holli Cheung went to visit her doctor after fainting in her home. Hollie told the Mirror, "I was advised to go home and rest."
Unfortunately, Holli's health problems were just getting started. She told the Mirror, "Just an hour later, as I held my baby on my lap, I passed out and Jordan rolled off my lap onto the floor."
Holli was rushed to the hospital. She said, "Next thing I knew, I was surrounded by paramedics along with my husband Jason, and was on a stretcher on my way to [the] hospital."

Holli suffered a cardiac arrest and she began the battle of her life. Nurses at Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital performed CPR for 45 minutes.
Eventually, Holli was put on a special machine to help her heart continue beating. She was being kept alive only by this machine.
When she awoke hours later, Holli was very out of sorts. She told the Mirror, "I felt like I was in a dream, and everything was just a blur."
Days later, she "asked for a pen so I could write things down to communicate because I couldn't speak. I couldn't believe this was my life."
But even in her grave state, Holli had only one thing on her mind.

"Being away from my son was gut-wrenching. Not being able to pick him up, soothe him, change him or feed him was like a pain I can't describe."
Doctors believed Holli's heart would never recover. After over a week hooked up to the machine, a donor team tried to mentally prepare Holli for the likelihood of needing to be put on a transplant list.
To lift her spirits, her husband brought baby Jordan to Holli's room to sleep with his mother for a couple of hours. What happened next? A miracle.

"I have no idea what happened that night when Jordan slept beside me," Holli told the Mirror. "All I know is that when the doctors and consultants came round on the their ward rounds the next day, they were astonished to see my heart beating."
Two weeks later, Holli was able to be taken off of her heart machine because her heart was working again on its own. How was this possible?
"My baby saved me, there's no doubt about that." Holli also praised the hospital workers for their amazing level of care. She continued, "I don't know whether it was a miracle, but some of the nurses certainly thought it was."
Three months later, Holli was strong enough to participate in the Birmingham Color Run to raise money for the hospital that helped care for her. But she knew in her heart that Jordan was her true savior.
"People say it was the strength of a mother's love. But I know Jordan became my sole reason to get better."
