This Puppy Was Found CHEWED UP In A Field. Why? I’m in Tears!

Life can be filled with joy — the birth of a baby, a wedding, the discovery of a strange, exotic, and beautiful new creature.

But sometimes, truly awful things happen.

Case in point, a poor six-month-old puppy was found chewed up, beaten, and bloody in a Central Florida field. Upon his discovery, rescue teams rushed the pup to a hospital in Orange County, where they performed emergency surgery to save his life.

He just barely made it.

The dog — who the hospital staff named Champion — was mercilessly dumped in the field because he was rendered a used-up bait dog.

Bait dogs are dogs that are chained up during a dogfight and used as literal bait for bigger, tougher game dogs that either kill or incapacitate the chained-up dog. Vile individuals set up this blood sport for gambling purposes, and the practice is illegal in the United States.

Champion, however, is a true champion, and made it through this horribly trying ordeal. His story is truly inspiring…video platformvideo managementvideo solutionsvideo player

Champion showed up at the hospital on New Year's Eve 2014 in critical condition. He was barely moving.

This picture of little Champion's injuries is graphic, but other photos that we refuse to show are even more heartbreaking.

The hospital believes that multiple dogs attacked him. He had puncture wounds all over his belly, some fresh, some old; some bites on his legs, which left exposed muscle and bone; some pierced organs.

Champion could have let go and died, but he held on. Vets noticed he had a strong will to live and refused to put him down.

Champion is going to need five-to-seven surgeries and about a year to recover. Once healed, he can be adopted.

The rescue has set up a donation page to raise funds for Champion’s surgeries. So far, they have raised more than $17,000 from wonderful, caring people, but he may need more. To help, click here.
