When it comes to my makeup, I’m all about a low-maintenance, natural look. I don’t like spending too long on my appearance every day, and I want people to be able to see my face — not a makeup mask!
I typically stick with just a few products that enhance what I’ve got, and I’m always trying tricks that make the beauty process easier, like these eye makeup hacks or a trick to make lipstick last all day long.
One thing that drives me crazy about makeup is when it smudges or disappears from my face before the day is done. I don’t want to have to repeat my morning beauty routine before going out in the evening! What I discovered is that the easiest way to keep makeup in place for longer is starting with a makeup primer. I wasn’t always that familiar with primers, so I thought that I was saving money by skipping them at the beauty counter. As it turns out, since I started using them, I actually started saving money on the rest of my makeup because I don’t have to reapply!
Makeup primers are so multipurpose! They soften skin, seal pores so that liquid foundation doesn’t sink in, correct skin tone, reduce the appearance of acne, fine lines, and wrinkles, and — my favorite part — help makeup stay on longer.
There are all different kinds, so you can pick whatever works best with your skin. If you like that red carpet perfection look, an HD primer like Smashbox Photo Finish Oil Free Foundation Primer absorbs oil and keeps the shine at bay. If pores are your biggest concern, there are plenty of pore-minimizing products on the market, like Too Faced Primed & Poreless or Benefit the POREfessional. If your skin tends to be dry, water-based formulas like Kat Von D Lock-It Featherweight Primer hydrate as they keep makeup in place.
If you’re new to primers like I once was, this video is a super-helpful resource. Please SHARE with your friends and family if you think they can benefit, too!
